[Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly reported that Texas is the 2nd largest producer of pecans in the U.S.A., when in fact Texas is the 3rd largest producer, with New Mexico being the 2nd largest producer of pecans in the U.S.A. 9-1-17 ]
Images of interstates underwater dot the internet, as Houston, Texas and surrounding areas are inundated with rain and flooding of historic proportions. Hurricane Harvey made land fall between Port Aransas and Port O’Connor, Texas Friday night. The now, tropical storm, is wreaking havoc in Houston and other nearby areas with record amounts of rainfall now causing record flooding. The storm however is not over yet. The National Weather Service is saying that the storm, while still dumping rain on Texas, is expected to make land fall again on Wednesday. Texas is the 3rd largest producer of Pecans in the US, which currently is the largest producer of pecan nuts in the world. With an already shortened global supply capacity, pecan buyers are watching closely to see what affects these adverse weather conditions will have on the Texas pecan production for 2017.
