US PREPARES FOR PECAN HARVEST

As the weather heats up in the Southern US, pecan growers are working diligently to to keep SCAB at bay. So far most growers are still very optimistic about the crop and say that “we’ve had a little [scab] hull damage but I don’t think it will hurt the nut, we’ve stayed on top of it this year”. Most growers are still on a tight spray schedule, but for Pawnee pecan growers, the harvest equipment is starting to make its way out of the barn and into the orchard. The Pawnee is one of the earliest pecan varieties to harvest. The University of Georgia has the average harvest date of September 10, if that holds true for this year we are approximately 40 days from harvest! Pawnee growers start your engines.
