The American Pecan Council received several submissions for funding of projects that would ultimately be beneficial to the American Pecan industry. One of those submissions reviewed was from the Pecan Sheller’s Association. The National Pecan Sheller’s Association submitted a funding request to the APC to fund a scientific research study to determine the in-store shelf life of pecans. The American Pecan Council with the help of Weber Shandwick is actively marketing pecans as the new super healthy snack food, which would make this study not only a logical choice but a very necessary one also. With new pecan snack foods being developed and marketed, the new shelf life study results will have an impact on how pecan products are marketed, along with how they are packaged. Pecan Sheller’s and growers alike agreed that this was a good use of pecan assessment funds, and that the study will greatly benefit the American Pecan industry.
