As we enter begin September 2017 the pecan industry begins to heat up with buying and selling activities prior to the first harvests. Georgia, the largest producing state in the US, will begin harvesting Pawnee (PAW) at the end of this month, while a few Mexican pecan producers will begin to harvest young Wichita (WICH).

The end of September is the early variety harvest with the majority of the varieties beginning harvest in October. This year’s upcoming harvest has buyers sharpening their pencils in hopes of getting their orders filled before the limited crop runs out on high demand.
