Pecan exports from the US to countries around the globe have fallen this season when compared to last year’s same time frame.
The pecan season as defined by the data collection efforts of the APC runs from September to August each season in conjunction with the start of pecan harvest in the US. The latest pecan position report was released for December 2024 showing a decrease in the pecan exports to other countries.
As of the latest report (Dec-24) pecan exports are down 21.05% from September to December as compared to last season. The largest decrease came from the shipments to Asia which are down 78% or approximately 24 million pounds. The biggest decrease in the Asia market came from in-shell pecans being shipped to China.
Pecan shipments to India have held about steady with a slight increase over last season. The Indian market is one of the major markets of focus for the American Pecan Council’s marketing efforts as India’s middle class is growing quickly in the country.
The European market helped to shore up exports with an increase of around 7 million pounds for the season. Most growers have completed harvest here in the US and many have moved on to the shelling and processing of their pecans. As the season progresses we will get a better picture of the global demand for US pecans.
