Pecan Deliveries and Shipments Slower for the Season

The American Pecan Council released the latest report for the month of December 2024 showing pecan shipments from growers are trailing behind last season by about 46.8 million pounds as of the end of December 2024.

Early season hurricanes wiped out a significant amount of pecans from the southeastern US when areas of Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas lost millions of pounds of pecans and some growers lost entire orchards.

From September to December US growers have delivered approximately 93.8 million pounds of pecans while last year in 2023 growers had delivered around 140.6 million pounds representing a difference of 46.8 million pounds, down 33.27% for the year.

Shipments to end users is also trailing behind last season with a decline of 12.5%. Last season from September to December US pecan handlers shipped 170.1 million pounds while this season handlers have only shipped 148.9 million pounds, a decrease of 21.2 million pounds.

As of December pecan inventories were reported at about the same as reported last December at 149.5 million pounds. Last year at the same time the current data is showing inventories at 151.5 million pounds a decrease of only 2 million pounds or 1.4%.

The January report is expected to be out by the end of next month as we should begin to see how the western harvest will be affecting the overall numbers this season.
