The southeastern United States is still dealing with the aftermath of hurricane / tropical storm IRMA; and pecan growers are no different. In south and middle Georgia, the effects of the high winds from tropical storm Irma have caused some serious damage throughout the pecan growing regions of the state. Many pecan growers have now had a chance to assess the damage to their orchards. While some growers were hit harder than other, the state as a whole has estimated a 30% loss or just north of 30 million pounds.

In a normal year, growers would be shaking PAWNEE (PAW), and MONEY MAKER (MM) and beginning harvest of the early varieties, but now with the damage left by hurricane Irma, growers are scrambling to clean up down limbs and down trees in orchards before they even think about harvest.
