The worlds largest gathering of pecan growers, buyers, shellers, accumulators and pecan service providers will be meeting this week in Delicias, Mexico for the annual Dia del Nogalero.
The pecan event will be held over a three-day period in Northern Mexico and will attract pecan growers and buyers from all over Mexico and the United States, as well as a few other countries. Talks will be held for informational purposes to educate growers on best practices for growing pecans and selling pecans to the global pecan market. The event is also a great place to allow pecan growers and buyers to meet and discuss the current market outlook and the current crop estimates for all of Mexico’s pecan producers. Some growers in Mexico are getting ready to shake early varieties and say interest from overseas buyers as well as American shellers has been very strong. Many believe that the trade war between the US and China has driven up the demand for Mexican pecans to China. Several processors in Mexico say they will be buying pecans from the US to help cover demand for oversize and extra-large pecans. Mexico produces some oversized pecans in the Sonora area but not nearly enough to supply the demand that is currently being seen. The event in Delicias will begin with the opening ceremony on Wednesday August 29th and will end on Friday August 31st, 2018. The three-day event will host a multitude of vendors at the show from solar panels to the latest harvesting and spraying technology, as well as pecan cleaning and shelling equipment. The event is the largest of its kind and is attended by growers and buyers from all over the country. We will be reporting from the event and will bring you updates in the following weeks. We hope to see you there.
