2024-25 Pecan Harvest Wrapping Up

Pecan growers across the southern US and Northern Mexico have been in the orchards working on most farmer’s favorite activity, harvest. When most of the year is spent preparing, nurturing, and investing both time and money into a crop, harvest can be a rewarding time of the year.

This seasons pecan harvest is largely complete across the northern hemisphere and many growers have moved onto pruning, planting and irrigation tasks in the orchards, but many are also in the cleaning and shelling plants working through the cleaning and shelling of the product.

Most pecans are sold as a shelled product while only around 15% of the crop is sold in-shell (depending on what point in the supply chain).

Growers across the US have largely reported a good quality crop while quantity seems to be a mixed bag similar to farmgate prices. Some areas reported a less than stellar crop load while others said they had a “good crop”. Once the receipts have been tallied for the season we will know exactly the crop load.

Based on the last few years reported by the APC, I’m guessing we will likely see somewhere between 250 – 310 call it approximately 280 million pounds delivered by growers for the year. Last year APC reported 358 million pounds of pecans delivered by US growers, which was the highest reported by the APC. We will likely see a decrease in deliveries this season.
