The USDA recently announced the sign up period for American farmers who have been negatively impacted by the trade tariffs placed on American agricultural products. President Trump has approved the USDA to provide up to $14.5 billion in direct payments to American farmers through the Market Facilitation Program (MFP) for 2019 to help producers impacted by the trade disputes. The MFP is one part of a broader effort undertaken by the USDA to help affected farmers.
Pecans are listed among the approved specialty crops eligible to receive payments. Applications will be available Monday July 29, 2019. With the first payment to be made beginning in August.
