FOREIGN AGRICULTURAL SERVICE UPDATES PECAN EXPORT DATA

At the request of pecan industry professionals such as pecan sheller’s and pecan brokers, the USDA’s Foreign Agricultural Service made changes to the 2016 and 2017 pecan export data stored in the Global Agricultural Trade System, (G.A.T.S.) The G.A.T.S. system is the online database that allows users to search through data collected by the F.A.S. in the multiple offices around the globe.

The pecan data updates affect the 2016 and 2017 year export data. In 2016 data was changed in October, November, and December to ultimately remove 1,673,453 kgs (3,689,327 lbs) of shelled pecans from the exports to China, Hong Kong and Vietnam, and add 1,515,527 kgs (3,341,161 lbs) of In-shell pecans to the exports of the same countries. In 2017 the data reflects changes to pecan exports to China, Hong Kong and Mexico to ultimately remove 5,938,435 kgs (13,091,992 lbs) of shelled pecans from the export data and add 5,938,853 kgs (13,092,874 lbs) of In-shell pecans to the export data.

The overall effect of the two years data change removes 16,781,320 lbs of shelled pecans from the export data and adds 16,434,035 lbs of IN-Shell pecans to the export data.
